Val di Non

not only apples....

"... a delightful sunny green plateau which owes its beauty to landscape and tradition...a marriage of past and present...among colourful lakes, watercourses and flower-filled meadows, but most of all apple orchards...producing the excellent fruit which symbolises this land...the Melinda apple"

Val di Non, in the western part of the region, is the most extensive of Trentino`s valleys, with a wide plateau bisected by the Noce river, which splits into a Y-shape at the lake of Santa Giustina, dividing the land into a left bank, a right bank and a northern area. Water is plentiful in lakes and streams which over time have eroded the rock to form gorges, waterfalls and gullies which give rise to the name Valley of the Canyons; we recommend adventures in the Parco Fluviale Novella at Romallo and the Canyon Rio Sass at Fondo.

The valley is steeped in history, from the ancient Romans who realised the significance of this territory adjoining the Brenner Pass, to the Middle Ages which saw the building of numerous castles, among them the majestic Castel Thun which surveys the plateau from on high, Castel Bragher, Castel Cles and Castel Valer.

On your travels you will notice many small villages, and often come across evocative reminders of history and culture, such as the Sanctuary of San Romedio, one of Europe`s finest hermitages.

Val di Non is trekking, too, among the silent peaks of the Maddalene mountains; mountain biking, with the new cycle track covering over 100 km, the golf course at Sarnonico, kayaking on the lake of Santa Giustina, skiing and snowshoe treks in the winter months...
If you want a holiday far away from stress and immersed in nature`s tranquility, we await you in Val di Non, valley of the apples!!!
